Galey Farms, which is the one everyone thinks of first, does not allow dogs on the farm at all. Where can my dog actually go with me?

The Saanichton Corn Maze & Pumpkin Patch, run by Ocean View Estates at 6331 Central Saanich Road in Saanichton, is the dog-friendly one. Dogs are welcome in the pumpkin patch itself, on leash at all times. The one firm rule is to keep your dog out of the corn maze, and they ask for that reason: a loose leash can catch the corn stalks and snap them, and the maze is meant to stay intact for everyone.

It runs Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., plus Thanksgiving Monday, and stays open into early November. Because it is a working farm and the season changes a little every year, I still call or check their page before heading out, especially with the dog in the car.

What about the other farms people mention?

You will hear Silver Rill Corn Maze on Central Saanich Road, Lohbrunner Community Farm in Langford, Michell Brothers, and Dan's Farm come up in fall roundups. None of them publish a clear dog policy that I can confirm, which is exactly why I do not recommend assuming. Farm rules differ by the season and by the crowd, so treat an unconfirmed patch as a call-ahead situation rather than a gamble with a disappointed dog in the back seat.

What should I bring for a dog at a pumpkin patch?

A proper 6-foot (or shorter) leash is non-negotiable, both because the farm asks for it and because a field full of strangers and kids is not the place for a loose dog. Bring water, a collapsible bowl, and poop bags. Patches are packed dirt and dry grass, so paws dry out fast and a dog with sensitive feet can be sore by the end; a quick rinse and a paw check when you get home helps.

If your dog is noise-sensitive or nervous around children, skip the busy afternoon slot.
