About Cordova Bay Beach

Cordova Bay Beach stretches along the Saanich shoreline between Walema Avenue and Cordova Bay Park, a long, open, sandy stretch with views across the water toward the Gulf and San Juan Islands. It is the beach locals describe as the easy-going one: room to spread out, gentle water, and none of the shoulder-to-shoulder feeling of the downtown beaches.

The beach sits in a residential neighbourhood on Cordova Bay Road, so the feel is relaxed and village-like. Year-round, this is one of the most reliable beach walks on the Saanich side, and once summer ends it becomes wonderfully peaceful again.

Seasonal Access Rules

  • From May 1 to August 31, dogs are prohibited on the sand during the day, with one exception: before 9:00 a.m., early morning walks are permitted.
  • On September 1, full access resumes. The entire beach opens up for dogs at all hours again.
  • The usual leash rules and posted signage still apply, so check the beach before you let dogs roam, and confirm current advisory status on the beach hub.
  • Outside the summer window, Saanich's seasonal pattern applies: off-leash access October 1 to March 31, on-leash during the warm months, as spelled out on our Cordova Bay neighbourhood guide.

Practical Details

Parking: Free street parking along Cordova Bay Road, with a small lot near the beach. Arrive early on summer weekends, the lot fills quickly.

Neighbourhood: Cordova Bay village, with its cafés and shops, is a short walk or drive up the road, and Cordova Bay Park adds forested trails above the shoreline.

Water & advisories: The open, wave-washed shoreline keeps water circulating, but always check the beach hub's current advisories section and the CRD beach water quality reports before swimming with your dog.
